Jakuba Katalpa’s books have been published in eight languages: Bulgarian, Croatian, German, Italian, Latvian, Macedonian, Slovenian, Slovak, with the rights sold to Poland and Serbia.
The novella Is Soil to Be Eaten? / Je hlína k snědku? was shortlisted for Magnesia Litera in the Newcomer of the Year category (2007), the novel The Bitter Sea / Hořké moře for the Jiří Orten Prize (2009).
For the novel The Germans / Němci she received Czech Book Award (2013) and Josef Škvorecký Award (2013), and was shortlisted for Magnesia Litera in the prose category (2013).
In 2017, she published The Den / Doupě, an elaborate, multi-layered novel set in the present. Zuzana’s Breath / Zuzanin dech (2020), the author’s next novel and her most successful to date, returns to the time of the Second World War.
